fThis creative DIY wedding got a dashing spread on style Me pretty (to quote SMP: It’s a little bit country, a little bit city, and a whole lotta gorgeous! I’m loving the bushels of veggies, the warm richness of the long wooden linen-less farm tables, the hay bale ceremony seating, and the super sophisticated dress on the beautiful bride!)

It took place at the Twilight Lodge; the groom’s family owned B&B and was literally renovated by family and friends, from concept to creation. A new (and ambitious, I’m told) wave of renovation was instigated especially for the wedding.

This was a great labor of love with lots of quirky details. A medley of deep warm color flowers were arranged in vintage food tins from the family’s antique store on the premises.

They designed the invite and save the date along with graphic designer friends into a series of whimsical postcards depicting food themes of Hudson valley/vintage/rustic warm feel. We loved it so much that we are planning a full blog post just on these gorgeous designs reminscent of timeless ephemera.

The bride Liron, worked on top events for Creative Edge & Attila, the groom, is a renowned Chef. The lodge is a quietly stunning inspired spot for weddings, events and tasting in the Hudson Valley – a great destination for a weekend getaway!

Meeting Jill & Abdul was love at first sight. Everything about this wedding is beautiful and generous and down to earth. Plus Abdul’s speech was a hip hop love poem!

Here’s what Jill wrote:

So where do I begin??!!

OFFICIANTS: Abdul is Muslim and I am Jewish. We wanted to make sure that whoever married us knew us in and out. So what better people to marry us than my parents? They have supported both of us in all of our struggles and in life. They raised me. We knew they would put together a ceremony that represented who we are and who we want to be in a marriage.

TILE IN THE PARK: My dad grew up across Tompkins Square Park, and my brother and Sis-in law dedicated that tile to my parents for their anniversary.

We chose Housing Works Bookstore Café because:

1. We wanted our money to go to something good, and with housing works it went right back into helping and advocating for homeless people with hiv/aids

2. We’re both super nerds and the idea of getting married in a bookstore just seemed right

3. Housing works was the first and last place we looked at, we just knew it was right

DYI: I found a wonderful place in Chicago called Woman Craft that employ women who have been out of work and teach them how to recycle paper (from local businesses) and make beautiful stationary to create our invitations.

The programs include a beaded flower for everyone to take home. I made almost all of these flowers for each of our guests. I tried to make them all unique as each of our friends and family are very special and all are so so so very important to us.

I photographed Kathy and Ricky’s wedding seven years ago and was delighted to get the call to do Kathy’s maternity pictures. Serendipitously, our photo session was right on their 7th wedding anniversary. It took place in their stunning New York apartment, sandwiched between Ricky running a marathon that morning and celebrating their anniversary later that afternoon. A lot to celebrate. I like being in the business of goodness this way…

The Diet Coke Pop Up kitchen in NY, opened the Style Series. We helped set up the photo booth, that was open to the public (you can see it in this youtube link of the web series, and the pictures below) and I covered all the events.

This was a weeklong of events, with special healthy food presentations by chef Tom Collichio and a private acoustic performance by Jewel (sadly i can’t show her pics here, she was amazing and you can see her cover of somewhere Over the Rainbow).

summer portraits – a walk in the park!

In response to all the calls we put together a summer special: $250 for a 30 minute photography session!! ($500 in value)

We are hosting this fun and special event in Central Park so bring your kids, parents, grandparents, (pets), lovers and friends – however you define family – it’s bound to be a wonderful experience.

It’s also a great opportunity to get those new head shots or splurge on beautiful dating photos!

Pop Up Chapel

Thanks to Darcy Miller who told me about the real weddings that took place at 303 Grand as part of the Martha Stewart Wedding and the Wedding Library’s Pop Up Chapel .

Five lucky couples got to wedd (on very short notice ) in this transformed Williamsburg space .

Fiona and Chris

Fiona is the former director of photography at Esquire and Entertainment Weekly, as well as photo editor at Rolling Stone Magazine. Martin Schoeller built a set at the W Hotel for the family portraits. Here’s pics from this gorgeous New York Wedding and notes from Fiona.

Fiona writes, “As a wedding gift to us, our good friend Martin Schoeller offered to shoot our formal wedding portraits. Martin is one of my very favorite professional photographers and we were honored to be his subjects for the day. He built a simple set in the ballroom of the W Hotel and photographed us with our families, bridal party, and close friends. It was one of the most fun and intimate parts of the entire day – the calm before the storm! Raquel’s photos taken behind the scenes of the formal sitting are some of my favorites. She really captured the fun, excitement and adrenaline of the day!”

“Instead of hiring a limousine or a fancy car to drive us to the church and reception, Chris and I thought it would be more fun, and more New York, to go in a cab, so we rented a vintage yellow cab for the day.”

“We were married at Trinity Church in downtown New York City. It is such a magnificent church and Raquel captured the drama so beautifully.”

“We chose Sky Studios in New York City because it felt like a beautiful, quirky, romantic home with fantastic views of the city. It was an incredible space for our wedding reception. The dining room was lovely and intimate for dinner and toasts, the roof level was airy and spacious for cocktails, dancing, and lounging after dinner, and the rooftop pool area was a perfect place to go and cool down. Ours was the last wedding at Sky Studios as it was sold shortly thereafter.”

“At the reception, we had two polaroid cameras, a scrapbook, and pens placed on a table for our guests to photograph themselves and each other, and to write us a note with their picture. The results were hilarious! And since Kodak has stopped making Polaroid film now, it really frames our wedding in a certain place in time. There is nothing like polaroid film!”

“It was such an incredible day for us and flew by far too quickly! We are so grateful that Raquel was there to capture everything on film. She is so professional and has a way of being almost invisible while she is working. As you can see the resulting photographs are natural, unguarded, and beautiful!”
